Security

To ensure that we hire quality employees, Evergreen Estates performs criminal background checks through the Washington State Criminal Background Unit before hiring and then is repeated on a periodic basis.

The facility is locked at night at approximately 8 pm, though this depends a lot on the time of the year. In the summer, we may lock the building later than in the winter. Our residents and their family members can still access the building through an issued key or by using the doorbell at the front door.

We always have a minimum of two staff members in the facility at all times, so even late at night we have staff in the building in case of emergency. A member of our management staff resides in one of our apartments, providing another level of security.

Each individual apartment is individually keyed with some staff having keys in order to enter in case of an emergency or when providing a service, such as housekeeping and maintenance.

Each resident is assigned an emergency pendant. Evergreen Estates uses the new technology of a wireless pendant system. The device is worn around the neck or the wrist. Each device is coded to a particular resident and, when activated, gives the location of the resident.

Evergreen Estates was designed and built with the State Fire Marshall’s stamp of approval. The facility is subdivided into many different fire safe sections that are separated by a 2-hour fire wall and doors in the corridors, with each apartment having approved smoke doors.

Our facility is protected by a fire alarm system that is monitored through a monitoring company. The facility has smoke detectors, heat detectors and a sprinkler system that even has sprinkler heads in closets. We perform monthly fire drills to ensure staff and our residents are trained and familiar with our policies and procedures.

The facility is inspected annually by the State Fire Marshall and we contract with a large corporation to ensure our fire alarm system, fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers are kept in proper working order.
